My 2023 Audible Listening Stats

My 2023 Audible Listening Stats

I listen to a lot of books!

I Read Every Night Before I Fall Asleep.

It’s become HOW I fall asleep. This stems from several years of battling anxiety and insomnia. If you want to learn more about that, you can Read This Old Blog Post

It started well before tablets, electronic reading devices, or Kindle on my phone. I discovered that the steady back-and-forth motion tired my eyes, distracted my mind, and lulled me to sleep. So, I started reading fiction…something that carried me away to a fantastical world of non-reality…back when I had to leave a light on to see the pages.

Jeff has always been amazingly adaptable when it comes to my sleep habits. He’s one of those people who, generally speaking, falls asleep within minutes of his head hitting the pillow. Unlike me, he can sleep through light and noise.

I’m so envious.

Anyhow, I love books.

I’m an author. Go figure.

So, when tablets became a thing it was a revelation! The light is built in. I could lay there, in bed, right next to my sweetheart, and read without the worry of disturbing him.

And so I do. And I have. For years now.

Whatever about blue light, blah, blah, blah.

It puts me to sleep. And that’s all I care about.

According to Amazon, I currently have 249 titles on my Kindle.

But That has Nothing to do with My Audiobook Obsession.

I just checked, and apparently, I downloaded my first-ever audiobook on August 31st, 2019. I didn’t download just one, I acquired four titles.

Then five more the next day, on September 1st.

I think I wanted to try out several different authors. Mostly to listen while I walked.

Astonishingly, I didn’t download any more audiobooks for six months. Wow!

But…Covid.

Still, that didn’t really hit until February/March.

And that’s when I resumed my audiobook purchasing.

It’s been pretty much an addiction ever since.

I have a monthly Audible subscription.

And this past week they sent me my listening stats for 2023.

I’m kind of blown away.

Because…I don’t ever JUST listen to audiobooks. I listen WHILE I’m doing something. Mostly when I’m working on a pyrography project. But I also like to listen whenever I’m doing anything mindless; cooking, doing laundry, putting on my makeup, etc.

And That Accounts for These Numbers

In 2023 I listened to audiobooks on Audible for a combined total of 19,613 minutes. My longest listening session was 389 minutes on Nov. 6th. Makes me wonder what wood-burning project I was working on at the time…

Ahhh…it was Barbara Eden as Jeannie. That explains it.

Top Authors I Listened to Were:

Juliet Marillier

David Baldacci

Cate Tiernan

Nora Roberts

The Top Three Favorite Genres I Listened to Were:

1. Science Fiction & Fantasy = 13,858 minutes

2. Teen & Young Adult = 3,532 minutes

3. Literature & Fiction = 2,589 minutes

Based on listening length, the author I listened to most was Brandon Sanderson. His Words of Radiance and The Way of Kings books total 5,933 minutes.

According to Audible, I earned the Voracious Listener Award because apparently, I listen to more titles a month than most. ;)

Are You an Audiobook Fan?

If not, I highly recommend a Monthly Membership. For my value, it’s the gift that keeps on giving! I’m always ready to search for my next great listen when the new month rolls around with a new credit for purchase. Most of the audiobooks I listen to are 12-45 hours in length. And for $16.95 a month, I get hours and hours of entertainment. I’d spend more than that just going to the theater to see a single movie.

What Books Are YOU Reading or Listening To?

And who are your favorite authors?

I’d love your recommendations. Because, as you can see, I consume a LOT of stories!

Please comment with your suggestions.

Until next time,
